DESCRIPTION:Home Close or Swildon’s Short Round Trip \nTwo trips to choose from this month:- \nHome Close\nDuration –4 hours.\nLocation – Meet at Upper Pitts at 10:00.\nHome Close is a seldom visited cave that links into the Wigmore system and contains a number of active digs.\nMonica and Courtenay have volunteered to show two parties of four people around the cave.\nYou will need SRT kit for the entrance series.\nHarnesses will be a nuisance in the following squeezes and crawls\, so the SRT kit will be left behind.\nHowever\, you will need a belt and cows’ tails for the rest of the cave as it includes some via Ferrata style fixed aids.\nPlease note that the cave is very muddy and warm caving kit is recommended as there may be a wait to get back up the entrance series.\nIf you would like to go on this trip then you must email me (wayne@cuckoocleeves.uk) to reserve one of the 8 places. \nSwildon’s Short Round Trip\nDuration – 2 -3 hours.\nLocation – Meet at Upper Pitts at 10:00.\nIf you don’t fancy Home Close then the Short Round Trip in Swildon’s is one of the UK’s classic trips.\nIf you’ve never done it before\, or are a little uncertain of the route\, here is your opportunity.\nThis will be quite an aqueous trip involving a number of ducks and passing through Sump 1 at least once!\nNo special equipment is required\, although a belay belt is recommended for the ladder pitch and those who feel the cold may want to wear some neoprene.\nA goodwill fee is payable to the landowner (£2 per person).

DESCRIPTION:St Cuthbert’s Swallet \nDuration – 3 – 4 hours.\nLocation – Meet at Upper Pitts at 10:00. \nBean has very kindly arranged a number of Wardens for St Cuthberts. \nFor those who are not familiar with the cave\, it is complex system and the second longest on Mendip.\nIt has a steep entrance series that leads to a multi-level network of passage\, chambers and boulder ruckles.\nThe exact destination of each party will be agreed with the Wardens on the day and it should be possible to accommodate all levels of ability and experience.\nNo special equipment is required.\nWe will probably use the changing and shower facilities at the Belfry for which a £1 goodwill fee will be payable.\nPlaces are limited so if you would like to go on this trip then you must email me (wayne@cuckoocleeves.uk) to reserve your place.

DESCRIPTION:Monkton Farleigh Stone Mines \nDuration – 4 – 5 hours.\nLocation – Meet at the Wessex at 10:00 or Monkton Farleigh at 11:00.\nDarren Chapman has volunteered to show us around one or more of the stone mines around Monkton Farleigh.\nThese workings are quite extensive and include good examples of stables\, storerooms\, rail tracks\, etc.\nThe mines provided the stone for the façade of Buckingham Palace.\nPlease note that some of the places Darren intends to visit are a bit like “digs” and may be a little unstable.\nNo special equipment is required.\nThe mines tend to be quite warm so the recommended kit is overalls on top of normal clothes.\nKneepads are recommended as there maybe some crawling and\, obviously\, a helmet and light is mandatory.
