The Wessex Cave Club is an active caving club with around 300 members, making us one of the largest clubs in the U.K. Formed in 1934 the club remains at the forefront of cave exploration in the UK and overseas.
Our head quarters Upper Pitts is located in the heart of the Mendip Hills in Priddy, near Wells, Somerset. This puts us close to all the major cave systems, with some of the more famous ones such as Swildon’s Hole on our door step.
Please note that in line with the current advice from the government concerning Covid-19, Wessex Cave Club is now able to offer at Upper Pitts, by BOOKING, limited bunkroom beds and camping on a limited basis to members, and camping to reciprocal rights or visitors (max 6). Other areas of Upper Pitts are available for use following the rules set out, and Government guidance on social distancing. Booking and Covid guidance for Upper Pitts can be found on the Hut Bookings page.
Each sleeping area is available to 1 Family Support Bubble. Toilets and showers may be used with cleaning by those that use them. The Kitchen is available for use by 1 Family Support Bubble at a time. Agreement of times with other residents at Upper Pitts should be observed. Kit is available, please return it to the shelves in the locker room.
